Early Series Racing - Sunday 12th May
Published 10:41 on 13 May 2024
A gradient easterly breeze fought a losing battle with a very shifty south westerly sea breeze on Sunday to make things tricky for all. Initially set up for the easterly, the support crew quickly re-laid the marks for the new breeze, and started the Open fleet in a decent 10 knot wind. 3 minutes later though it fell to nothing, causing the abandonment of the Scow fleet start, with them sadly sent back to shore without a race.
Meanwhile conditions were described as 'mind blowing' by one competitor in the open fleet. The wind remained shiftier than a bag of snakes, at one point gusting up to 20 knots, but 3 laps were somehow completed of the triangle / sausage course. A big thank you to the RIB crews and race team, who were kept busy, and competitors for the patience and perseverance!
Open Fleet 1st place went to Ian Sanderson, with Rob Langley coming in 2nd.
Thank you also to Mark Jardine for the race report and photographs from Mark Jardine and Mike Rother.
