LTSC / KYC Shakedown Cruise Cowes - 19th-20th March 2022

We started the journey to Cowes after a hearty breakfast, with some trepidation. The skies were blue but the wind blew too!

We headed out of the river to pass little Lady Jane retreating back towards home after venturing to the mouth of the river. A very sensible move!!. After a slightly interesting exit from the berth we battled across a very choppy Solent with wind over tide, heading towards the island to get some reprieve from the wind and the worst of the short Solent chop. We did not attempt to sail as new rigging had not been tested and it would have been a baptism of fire for the rig gusting up to force 7 on occasions!

After about an hour the tide started to slacken but was against us from then, we found some much appreciated shelter from the island and not quite cup of tea weather but a more comfortable sea state.

Arriving at shepherd's marina we were greeted by fellow cruisers who took our lines and welcomed us ashore. One of the great benefits of this lovely cruising group. We had a very leisurely afternoon with some rugby watched, and a light bite at the island sailing club - what a view!

In the early evening the crews of the 6 boats who were able to get to Cowes convened at the island sailing club for a little refreshment and a very delicious meal. We were made very welcome and we'll looked after.

The following day a leisurely get up and breakfast before setting sail for Lymington late morning. A beautiful sail home 10 knots of breeze from the east pushed us home with sails up and blue skies. Back on the Dock early afternoon refreshed and excited for the next opportunity to meet fellow cruisers either at the dinner on Saturday at keyhaven Yacht Club or another cruise.

We hope this gives those interested in becoming Cruisers an insight how a trip works even when the weather tries to conspire against you

I would sum this "Shake Down Cruise" more as a shake rattle and roll Cruise! But Our

Thanks must go to Chris Carswell for organising this very successful well organised cruise.
