GSG Evening Sail - Tuesday 21st June

GSG Evening Sail

Conditions were almost ideal for our sail - bright sun, clear skies and a gentle SW breeze and not surprisingly, the good weather made for a fantastic attendance.

In all 12 scows and a Lymington Pram took to the waters. With Jo Edwards leading the colourful small boat fleet and Tom Garfath sweeping at the rear, we set off down Hawkers and into the Solent. Looking at 13 small boats all in an orderly procession in blue skies and warm sun, was impressive and makes all the cold weather sailing worthwhile.

Once in the Solent came the opportunity to sail freely in open water and helms and crews had the chance to hone their sailings skills as we proceeded to the Keyhaven spit. At the spit the crews anchored up and enjoyed a small picnic before setting off backdown the Keyhaven river. Sadly, our luck had run out as the wind had dropped to almost zero as we slowly drifted back home. For some it was a chance to practice rowing and paddling, while some lucky individuals managed to catch a lift from our support boat! Overall, it was a very enjoyable sail and my thanks to you all for attending. Also, a big thank you to Richard and Steve for their professionalism on our support boat.

Looking forward to doing it again very soon.

Stuart
