GSG on the water in style

GSG on the water in style - 26th April 2022

The sail last night was a pleasure for me

Firstly, the positive and willing response from those both experienced and new to sailing, who were able to make it, was very encouraging.

Then the spirit of willingness and cooperation you all showed (some meeting up for the first time) in getting boats rigged and on the water enabled us to start on time too. The weather was kind and gave us chance to sail without pressure - and in some cases to develop potentially effective sailing partnerships.

I hear from the support boat crew that the image of the fleet, sailing in line, perfectly spaced with matching sail settings into the sunset along the channel was a classic calendar shot. Unfortunately, they didn't have phones able to take the shot, but I took some that I think capture the moment.

As you all know, it was my first GSG on water event, and from comments made last night and in those in the chat since, I feel sure we all learned something and shared a mutually enjoyable KYC experience.

The potential for more GSG sailing was self-evident. It was great to hear questions about 'when can we go again' and talk of 'trying racing'. Maybe that was as a result of Saturday's opening day and the previous Thursday evening talk from Cy on 'an introduction to racing tactics'.

All this is a good sign for future events, so please use the WhatsApp chat to keep in touch and an eye on the website for dates. Now the online booking is up and running, we may need to learn to rig some of the other boats too?

Thanks to all who came last night especially our potterers for their support - there were 9 boats in the water so it was a great start to the GSG season.
