Autumn Series 3 & 4 (Crew required from 08:30)
Saturday night's crashing, banging and flashing obviously put some people off racing. Nevertheless we had a full duty crew and 8 intrepid racers.
The weather turned out to be really beautiful, dry, warm and sunny. The breeze started out as a 8kt south easterly and built and swung round to gusting 20kt southerly.
Having shown a PowerPoint slide of a perfect start line during Sailing September, the cheeky race officer set a short start line. Despite this challenge all but one boat made good starts.
During race 1 the wind freshened and swung right making the beat more of a fetch.
After race 1 the support boats very quickly moved the course round.
With more breez, the RO lengthened the start line which was now perhaps a little too port biased. Everybody started well with one unfortunate OCS Tide.
Race 2 was more challenging, gusting 20kt, more swell and a very strong ebb tide on the windward mark. There were a couple of capsizes and a very interesting bit of scow close contact waltzing.
Generally a great days racing which was well worth getting out of bed for!
Thanks,
Neil Peacock
