Sunday 26 November brought a fine day with some weak sunshine but a brisk 15kt+ northwesterly meant that even with an afternoon start it felt decidedly chilly. PRO Malcolm Lee got the Open Fleet away on time using a “P” course designed to give everyone a bit of reaching and running and to keep the boats close. Four Finns and a Ian Bye’s solitary Laser battled for the favoured windward end but got away cleanly. A drag race out to the port layline ensued for the Finns with Cy Grisley working his way from to leeward of the group to tack first. He rounded first and was to keep his nose in front to the end. Just behind, Simon Moss and Roddy Steel rounded together and were never more than a few lengths apart with Simon eventually taking 2nd by 6s.
Five Scows made the startline and despite the freshening breeze it was the 3 singlehanders who forged ahead with Chaundry, Raby and Harvey rounding close together. These 3 had a very close race although as the sun disappeared no-one complained when the course was shortened by a lap, with Jon Harvey just coming out on top and team Edwards first of the doublehanders.
Final race in the series in 2 weeks with a few boats needing another result to make a series!
