11.00 Spring Series 5 & 6

The 5^th and 6^th Spring Series were held in sunny conditions with a chill NE wind. Race officer Neil Peacock set a windward leeward course which suited the 5 Finn sailors in the open class, who were joined by John Phelps in his laser and Nick and Sharon Baron in their Laser.

The Finns enjoyed close racing in the first race with the usual banter between friends as they approached the leeward mark, some on starboard calling rights. The shifting wind meant there was some changing positions in the first race with all 5 Finns finishing within a minute and the Laser only another minute behind. Cy Grisley came out on top with Peter Blick in his 1957 built classic Finn and Simon Moss tying for second place.

The second race was also held in shifty conditions with the NE wind varying between 4 and 8 knots. It was won again by CY Grisley with Simon Moss and Andrew Hurst not far behind.

Two scows entered the scow fleet with Jo Edwards occasionally ahead, but she was beaten into second place by the well sailed scow sailed by Angus Raby, who won both races. The wind held up for both races allowing the scows to make against the tide even on the dead run, not the fastest point of sail for the scow.

We all enjoyed a gentle sail and thank the race officer and support boat crews for their contribution.
