Pursuit Race (Crew required from 14.30)
Sunday was the first Pursuit race of the year - well organised by our Rear Commodore Sailing, Neil Peacock.
The start was from the pontoon at a range of times, with the slowest boats starting well before the faster boats .
The course was set up Hawkers to a windward mark beyond Hawkers bouy, and then back round the island.
Initially the Scows led, with Simon Howell's Scow breaking free from the fleet heading back down the river. Slowly the Lasers caught up, and as the boats went up Hawkers again, the Lasers were just ahead.
After an hour, the hooter sounded, and the race ended, with the Lasers of Ian Sanderson and Ian Bye at first and second. Close behind were John Phelps, Antony Oliver, Claire and Magnus Lee (2000), and David Bence. John Phelps celebrating with a great capsize just after the finish!!!!!
Good effort by Simon Howell in his Scow and then George Bence and Alex Gibbons in a Feva just behind.
A great race, with support crews including 3 novices on their first support crew duties. All followed by a massive BBQ and a few beers - the perfect day!!!!
