Become an RYA Powerboat Instructor
Ready to turn your boating experience into an instructor qualification?
The RYA Powerboat Instructor (PBI) course prepares experienced powerboaters to teach the RYA Powerboat Level 1 and 2 syllabus. Over three days, you'll develop the coaching, communication and instructional techniques needed to deliver safe, enjoyable and effective training.
With small course numbers and plenty of time afloat, you'll receive individual coaching throughout - not just assessment.
What you'll gain
- Practical teaching and coaching skills
- Confidence delivering shore-based and afloat sessions
- Constructive feedback or an action plan from experienced RYA Trainers
- The RYA Powerboat Instructor qualification (subject to successful completion)
Throughout the course you'll receive regular feedback and leave with a clear action plan, highlighting your strengths and identifying areas to continue developing as you gain instructional experience.
For the right candidates, successful completion of the course can also lead to opportunities to join the KYC instructor team, delivering RYA courses and supporting our growing training programme.

Before attending you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold RYA Powerboat Level 2
