RYA Stage 2 in the youth sailing scheme will help to develop the skills needed to sail around a course and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor.
Course Contents
- Can independently rig, launch and recover their own boat.
- Can tie several essential knots in addition to those from Stage 1.
- Can sail simple courses with more control than at Stage 1.
- Know about key clothing and what to wear in different conditions.
- Can assist in righting a doublehanded boat or can right their own boat.
- Understands the sailing theory covered.
- Has knowledge of the wind direction.
- Understands the port and starboard rule.
Pre-requisites
RYA Stage 1 (or equivalent experience - able to tack across the wind and control speed).
Minimum age
8 years (we can accept those who are only slightly below the age of 8 if attending with others from their year group)
