First Midweek Racing of the Season
Published 16:45 on 9 Apr 2026
Wednesday Evening saw the first of the Midweek Series this season which gave Race Officer Colin Dunford some issues with a 17.00 start due to the tide [HW 15.00] and wind decreasing to a gentle breeze.
With 25 boats coming to the line, 14 Scows and 11 in the Open fleet, it was decided to restrict the race to the river starting at the club pontoon line down main river to a gate turning mark at the bottom of the river. Split into two starts it became evident with the wind degreasing that close haul sailing led to some interesting tactics. The Open class boats made the best of the conditions, but it was decided to shorten the course approaching the finish line.
It was close in the Open class with Ian Sanderson [Blaze] first over the line but Rob Langley [Laser] taking overall first place on handicap. In the Scow fleet there was some very close racing with Andy Ash-Vie showing all his skills first over the line followed closely by Nick Langford.
Results:
Open: First - Rob Langley [Laser] Second - Ian Sanderson [Blaze] and Third - Mark Dichlian [Laser]
Scows: First - Andy Ash-Vie, Second - Nick Langford, Third - Shannon and Ashton Dray.
Thank you to all the volunteers who enabled the racing to take place and to all who supplied the photography over the evening!
