More Sun, Sails and Seals for Junior Sailing!

The lightest of light breezes last Saturday morning provided our Junior Sailing group with just enough power to negotiate the river channels, all under their own steam!

For the final session of the year, 19 of our young sailors took to the water for what became a challenge in navigating the patches of light breeze, avoiding the shallows, and dealing with the floating weed!

One of the resident seals even made a perfectly timed appearance to quietly observe the group as they passed by on a close reach along the main river!

Light wind tacking up Mount's Lake became a particular test of patience and skill, however relief and reward awaited every crew as they could finally bear away around the marsh and head towards the crabbing bridge!

Whilst no speed or distance records were ever going to be set, the conditions and high tide did make for the perfect home straight to conquer the northwest passage! As the breeze threatened to die off altogether, the group found just enough to keep themselves moving along the sea wall and even demonstrate that not all breezes are equal as some defied the mirror like conditions and found more speed than others!
