Junior Sailing Light Wind Fun - Saturday 18th May 2024

Junior Sailing this week saw 19 junior sailors, all aged 7-11, launch 11 club boats, for what began from the slipway as a rather slow drift to nowhere!
To find some breeze they needed to travel, so 3 tow strings later, the fleet of 4 Zests, 3 Teras, and 4 Oppies were ably assisted towards Hurst Castle in search of wind. Beyond the pool, just enough breeze then kept some dinghies moving chasing tennis balls, whilst some landed on the spit, and some others shadowed the support boats in search of biscuits! In the end, a gentle but steady breeze filled in sufficiently for all 11 dinghies to sail themselves back to the slipway from the spit.
Great to see our youngest river sailors building their confidence in the lighter winds, getting comfortable in the dinghies, and negotiating the river and tide - well done to all! Huge thanks also to all the supporting parents upon whom these sessions depend.
