Regatta Week, Day 2: Hurst Marine Day Delivers Close Racing
Published 20:50 on 3 Aug 2026
After Saturday's Junior and Youth regatta, Day 2 of Keyhaven Week brought 37 boats out for a 3 race series sponsored by Hurst Marine. With a steady 10kt northeasterly the fleets got underway round a triangle sausage course. The ILCA 7's dominated the top places with Rob Langley leading from Ashton Dray with the Icon of Ian Sanderson and Pippa Mellor splitting the pair on handicap.
In the Lymington Scows, Simon Howell won from Andy Ash-Vie with Neil Peacock and Alison Boxall in third.
A brief delay whilst the course was reset for the SW sea breeze and the race 2 was underway with the leading boats in the fast handicap getting around a shortened windward leeward before the breeze shutdown, with the same boats in the top 3 places. The rest of the fleets battled a flat calm and building ebb tide in search of an elusive leeward mark, with the scows running out of time as their race was abandoned.
Winners of the day were Rob Langley in his ILCA 7 and Simon Howell in the scows.
Thank you to all our volunteers, both on and off the water for their help and dedication today. Also to Nick Boxall for the photographs.
