Racing Returned on Easter Monday

Published 15:44 on 7 Apr 2026

After the two days Easter Regatta cancelled due to Storm Dave, sailors were rewarded on Easter Monday with excellent conditions for Races 3 and 4 of the Spring Series. A south-easterly breeze of around 15 knots, gusting to 20 knots, combined with bright sunshine and smooth water to produce an enjoyable day of racing for both fleets.

Race Officer Robin Dent set a triangular course close inshore, providing good tactical sailing. The 13 boats in the fast fleet benefited from long downwind reaches, while the seven scows, with shorter beats, enjoyed tighter racing and closer reaches.

In the fast fleet, Ian Sanderson sailing his Blaze produced a dominant performance, finishing first on the water and on handicap in both races. Matt Wright and Alex Pepper, sailing a Laser 2000, took second place in each race, while Sue Handasyde-Dick secured third in her Laser Radial, making the top three identical in both contests.

The scow fleet was led by Andy Ash-Vie, who also claimed victory in both races. In Race 3, Angus Raby finished second with Neil Peacock and Alison Boxall taking third place. In Race 4, Kevin Dry moved up to second while Angus Raby finished third.

Despite the clear winners, there were close battles throughout both fleets, and plenty of action around the course. One memorable moment came when a Laser 2000 provided unexpected entertainment with an unfortunate capsize during a coffee break!

With the Easter Regatta cancelled earlier in the weekend, the bottle prizes that would have been awarded there were instead presented to the day's successful sailors after racing.

Thanks go to the race team and support crews for running an excellent day of racing.
