Spring Series Races 1 & 2 Report
Published 12:29 on 30 Mar 2026
Races 1 and 2 of the Spring Series took place yesterday, Sunday 29th March, in light winds, with conditions forecast to build during the afternoon and an ebbing neap tide setting the scene.
Race Officer Matt Wright set a course for Race 1 from the club line out into the Solent, providing competitors with upwind and downwind laps in the developing breeze. Race 2 followed as a reverse course, finishing back at the club line.
In the Fast Fleet, Ian Sanderson in his Blaze showed impressive pace, breaking clear of the fleet to secure victory in both races. Chasing hard behind were the Lasers of Andy Hind, Ash Dray and Rob Langley, all enjoying some close racing throughout the afternoon.
The Slow Fleet also produced two keenly contested races, with Nick Langford emerging victorious in both.
A special mention goes to Shannon Dray who took line honours in Slow Fleet Race 1 sailing a Zest a great achievement. There was also an unforgettable moment at the finish of Race 1, when an anonymous Laser sailor provided some unexpected entertainment with a spectacular capsize right on the line.
Many thanks to the race team and support crews for their efforts in making it a great start to the racing season.
