A Word from the Commodore - Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 1926 - 2022

Dear Fellow Members,
What possibly could be said that hasn't been said already? So many people around the world have written so beautifully about our beloved Queen, what she stood for, her service, her dedication and her warmth. I can only echo those sentiments.
She has been such a constant in our lives. The majority of members have not experienced life without her. The fabric of this nation's life has been ripped; we are going to need this time of national mourning to reflect before repairing it.
Therefore, we have concluded that it is too soon for us to be enjoying ourselves racing this Sunday. Perhaps this is incorrect, our Queen was a sailor and for all we know she may have wished for us to have kept calm and carried on. I simply don't know but as a wise person advised, it cannot be wrong to err on the side of respect.
Of course, you are most welcome as individuals to go sailing and use the club facilities. Personally, I can't think of a better place for a bit of peaceful reflection than being on the water.
We will resume racing, weather permitting, on Sunday 18th and Tuesday 20th September.
On the day of the funeral, the club will be open and we will be showing the proceedings on the screen. It is my sincere hope that people coming together to share the experience and the comfort of their friendship will help.
I am so very, very sorry that I will not be able to be with you in person as a long planned for trip is taking me away.
God save the King.
