GSG Sail - Tuesday 18th June 2024
Published 10:33 on 24 Jun 2024
It would be fair to say the start of the GSG season has been a bit frustrating with various sessions limiting us to land based training . However today looked near perfect with a light 10 knot north westerly would have preferred a south westerly but cant have everything . After the safety briefing the crews were ready to go 10 boats in all 9 scows , 1 wanderer and 2 support boats .
The colourful fleet set off down Hawkers expertly lead by Jo Edwards and safely rounded the Hawkers and out into the solent. Helms and Crews kept the fleet very organised and all boats entered the Key Haven River almost at the same time . It was at this point we had unexpected shift in both wind direction and speed with the wind now at 17knots we had very exhilarating final 10 mins for the GSG bringing smiles to most faces .
All in all very good sail and well worth the wait . My thanks to all involved especially our support crew John Hughes Malcolm Unwin and Steve Ormrod . Looking forward to seeing you all next time .
