KYC Talk Night Highlights Birdlife Around Keyhaven

Published 11:39 on 23 Mar 2026

On Thursday 19th March, KYC hosted another successful talk night, welcoming over 30 members and guests for an engaging and informative evening.

Our guest speaker was Richie Ainger, a Coastal Ranger for Bird Aware Solent, who delivered a fascinating presentation about the important work of this partnership organisation, which works closely with Hampshire County Council to help protect coastal birdlife.

Richie's talk explored the incredible variety of birds that can be found in and around Keyhaven, from year-round residents to seasonal migrants. Attendees learned more about the species they might encounter while walking along the seawall and around the local coastline, gaining a deeper appreciation for the unique and internationally important habitats right on our doorstep. It was a wonderful reminder of how fortunate we are to live and sail in such a special environment.

A huge thank you to Richie for sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm. Our members thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and the opportunity to learn more about the wildlife that surrounds us.

Our final talk night of the season will take place this coming Thursday, 26th March. We look forward to welcoming Tim Carnegie, who will update members on the latest news from the Environment Agency regarding Hurst Spit.

Members are encouraged to book their place here so we can manage seating and the bar.
