From Breeze to Glassy Seas - Youth Sailing Report
Published 08:44 on 14 May 2026
Saturday 9th May
A beautifully sunny day and a steady breeze all morning had the youth group sailors excitedly looking forward to their second session of the year. The club's new Zests were rigged with their crisp new sails and wheeled onto the beach.
After a quick briefing on the games we had planned, along with some tips on hiking out to keep the boats balanced, we went afloat. At this point, Mother Nature had other ideas, and the breeze disappeared, leaving the water glassy and calm, with 0 knots of wind at times.
Not to be deterred, the kids made their way slowly towards the castle and found other ways to entertain themselves namely capsizing and piracy with massive grins all round.
The wind filled in enough to allow us to dip our noses out into the Solent before returning to the club via Hawkers in time to light the BBQ.
Keep your eyes on the WhatsApp group for details of the next session. Thank you to all the parent volunteers for today.
